Start planning early and create a timeline for the process.
Evaluate your current home and identify what items you no longer need or use.
Sort your belongings into categories such as keep, donate, sell, or discard.
Consider the size and layout of your new home when deciding what to keep.
Use storage solutions such as shelves, cabinets, and organizers to maximize space.
Take measurements of your new home and furniture to ensure everything fits properly.
Utilize technology such as virtual tours or floor planning apps to help plan your new space.
Hire professional movers or organizers to assist with the process if needed.
Consider the emotional attachment to certain items and allow yourself time to say goodbye.
Embrace the benefits of downsizing, such as less maintenance and expenses, and a simpler lifestyle.
This is an example of how I created the "right" layout for a 2 bedroom condo from a 3 bedroom home.
I sized the space from the dimensions. I then went to the home and we went through the "must haves" and how they were going to use the space. I measured each piece of furniture and added those specs in the design.
What happens when you don't plan for this? The number one thing that will happen, is it will cost you money in the long run. The movers will have to come back and move furniture, possibly take away furniture and it costs money to throw things away. To avoid additional costs down the road, make sure you have a plan to "right size" your new space.
